UK–Europe cross-border travel

International Pet Travel FAQs

Clear answers about private cabin travel, LeShuttle, welfare stops, and what happens if a border document needs attention.

Will my pet share the vehicle with other animals or passengers?

No. The vehicle cabin is reserved exclusively for the customer party and its pets on the booking. We do not carry unfamiliar passengers or other customers' animals in a shared cabin. You and your pet travel together in the same climate-controlled cabin, except if border officials or a safety protocol require otherwise.

Why use LeShuttle instead of a ferry?

We plan our cross-Channel service around Eurotunnel LeShuttle: the rail crossing takes about 35 minutes and your party and pet remain together inside the climate-controlled vehicle. On some ferry services, pets may need to remain unattended in a vehicle on a vehicle deck or use a separate pet facility; arrangements vary by operator and sailing, so check the policy if comparing options.

Can you transport nervous rescue pets or flat-faced breeds?

A private, calm setup may suit some nervous rescue pets and flat-faced breeds such as Pugs, French Bulldogs and British Shorthair cats. Some airlines restrict or refuse carriage of flat-faced breeds, but airline rules vary by carrier, route and individual animal. Please describe your pet's needs when requesting a quote and ask your vet whether your pet is fit to travel. Our team is trained in animal welfare, not veterinary medicine, and cannot provide a medical fitness assessment.

What if there is a paperwork problem at Folkestone or Calais Pet Reception?

If Pet Reception or border officials identify a paperwork issue, we can offer reasonable practical support, such as helping you locate a local vet or accommodation while you seek advice. Officials make the decision about whether travel may proceed, and we cannot guarantee clearance, an appointment, accommodation availability or a particular outcome. Vet, lodging, rebooking and other third-party costs remain your responsibility unless your written quote says otherwise.

How often do you stop for comfort breaks?

For longer road legs, we plan welfare stops about every 2–3 hours at verified autoroute services where practical. Stops and timing are adjusted for traffic, safe stopping locations, the itinerary and your animal's needs. Please tell us about any specific mobility, toileting or feeding requirements before travel.
